There are five (5) fire commissioners at any given time, on an overlapping term schedule so that one seat comes up each year. A fire commissioner must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the fire district, and never been convicted of arson in any degree.
New York state law requires that fire commissioner elections must be held on the second Tuesday in December and that the polls must remain open at minimum from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
To vote in fire commissioners elections, a person must be a registered voter who has been a resident of the fire district for at least 30 days.
If you are interested in running for the position of Fire Commissioner, see "Elections Schedule" under the Data Center heading on the home page of this website.
